Not only did the latest installment of "The Walking Dead" mark the long-awaited return of the fan-favorite show, but it also celebrated its 100th episode. So we were bound to see plenty of interesting flashbacks to the early seasons. With that in mind, let's jump right in and talk about some of the most memorable moments you've probably missed in "TWD" Season 8 premiere: "Mercy."

We've come a long way

"TWD" wasted no time in celebrating the milestone since the first flashback happened as soon as the opening credits rolled.

We are, of course, talking about the gas station scene. And if you had a little deja vu moment, that's not a coincidence, since the showrunners deliberately made it this way.

To recall, in the very first scene of "TWD" ever, you could see Rick (Andrew Lincoln) driving to the gas station. It was then when he killed a little zombie girl who turned out to be just the first, of many, many "walkers" that Rick needed to kill to survive in the zombie apocalypse. And by having Carl (Chandler Riggs) driving to the gas station was a pretty nice way of showing how our characters have come a long way since the beginning.

Remembering Shane

"Let me ask you somethin', Rick" we heard Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) say. For the casual fans, this may be nothing, but for other, more dedicated fans, this line represents yet another flashback to earlier seasons since that was something Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal) used to say. You know, the backstabbing traitor who was supposedly Rick's best friend? Well, according to "TWD" director, Greg Nicotero, the "Let me ask you somethin', Rick" line was intentionally planted to tribute Bernthal's character.

That Carol moment

Speaking of the famous lines spoken by "The Walking Dead" characters, let's not forget Carol Peletier's (Melissa McBride) iconic "Just look at the flowers" line. And if you take a closer look at the bridge's walls, you can see Carol looking at the graffiti with a flower painted on it.

Too many Ricks

Now, to the confusing part of the episode. For the first time, there seemed to be more than two timelines in a single "TWD" episode. The first one picked up right where we left off, as we saw three leaders giving their speeches to prepare their followers for "All Out War" with Negan and "The Saviors." Then, the distant future that featured a significant time jump as we saw a much older Rick. And like that wasn't enough, the show introduced two more timelines. The one with Carl and Rick at the gas station and the second with the teary-eyed and pretty distressed Rick saying how his mercy prevailed over his wrath.

New character has been introduced

Last but not least, let's talk about Rick's "My mercy prevailed over my wrath" line.

In case you didn't notice, the same line was used earlier in the episode by nonother than a man Carl found at the gas station. So it appears that Rick was able to find common ground with the man he shot at. It's also worth noting that this character's name is Siddiq and he is going to play a major role in the future events.
