The latest episode of NBC’s breakthrough television series “This Is Us” has revealed a new and unexpected development in one of its main characters’ story. Actress chrissy metz as well as showrunner Dan Fogelman opened up about the recent revelation and aired what they thought of it.

Since the first season, the two has been keen on losing weight, but only Kate was able to continue with the weight loss program. In the latest episode, Kate’s more determined to lose weight just so she can fit in her new dress she’s planning to wear at a Bar Mitzvah. She has been usually obsessing on exercising.
However, the final scene of the fourth episode revealed that the truth behind’s Kate fervent determination to lose weight. Shortly after visiting the doctor, it was revealed that Kate was six weeks pregnant and she was exercising because she wanted to be healthy for the baby.
Her resolve to become a healthy expecting mother is supported by the fact that she even purchased prenatal vitamins for her pregnancy. With the pregnancy out in the bag, this poses a huge challenge to Kate because she just kicked off her singing career and her fiancé just told her that he wanted to take things slowly.
‘This Is Us’ creator and Chrissy Mertz on Kate’s secret
Dan Fogelman, the creator of the series, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that they've held on to Kate’s secret since the first season. He explained that they were debating when to put it in the show, but the pregnancy has always been part of the plan.
Fogelman didn’t confirm a wedding happening soon between Toby and Kate, but he pointed out that the high-risk pregnancy is a huge game-changer that can speed up their planned long engagement.
Actress Metz, on the other hand, is optimistic about the big reveal and said that she’s stoked that "This Is Us" has decided to tackle plus-size pregnancy.
Metz pointed out that this is a huge thing, not just for the story, but for the real world to see how a plus-size character deals with a potentially high-risk pregnancy. The actress said she’s excited about this revelation because it’s rarely portrayed on screen especially on a network television.
