There were no bars holding Sam Smith back when he graced an interview with The Sunday Times ahead the release of his album on November. His second studio album, titled "The Thrill Of It All," consists of 10 tracks for the standard edition and an addition of four songs for the special edition.

Sam Smith dropped "Too Good At Goodbyes" as the lead single from his upcoming album in September. Aside from that, he also released his collaborative song with Timballand, called "Pray," earlier this month. All songs from the album were co-written by the singer with the help of James Napier, Tor Hermansen, and Mikkel Eriksen.

Sam Smith to release 'The Thrill of it All'

When asked about the story behind his newest album, 25-year-old artist cited his song "Him" in particular and revealed that his coming out to his father has inspired him to write this track. "I think they show my growth, my confidence," he explained. "I feel like they show me. They show the gay guy I've become."

The "Lay Me Down" singer came out as gay just three years ago. In fact, he shared that his experiences with unrequited love have inspired him to produce his first album, "In the Lonely Hour," released in 2014. He specifically recounted the time he fell in love with a guy friend who could not return the favor.

Sam Smith explained that his decision to finally come out was fueled by his desire to talk about his unrequited relationships.

He also added that he has become comfortable with himself and would like other people to realize that there is no issue in coming out.

"I want to make it a normality because this is a non-issue. People wouldn’t ask a straight person these questions," he continued.

But before he revealed his gender identity, Sam Smith admitted fear held him back for so long until he finally decided to come out as gay.

He explained he was afraid to say the wrong things that would offend other people.

"And I was 19 when I started writing the first album. I’d just moved to London from a village—I was literally the only gay in the village. I didn’t know what I wanted to say," the singer recounted.

After coming out, the artist can now talk about his obsession with fashion without having to fear of what other people would say about him.

Sam Smith even revealed that he has a collection of heeled shoes at home. The "Stay With Me" singer said he was 17 years old when he got fascinated with Marilyn Monroe and Boy George, who are both renowned in the fashion industry.
