Ellen DeGeneres is now in the hot seat for tweeting a birthday greeting to Katy Perry. Although it might mean nothing to the television show host, her message was said to have a double standard. Thus, a lot of people didn't like it. Some strongly believed that her photo’s caption was sexist for making fun of the 33-year-old singer’s breasts. However, there are also some social media users that don’t see anything wrong with it.

DeGeneres received backlash from the Twitter world

On October 25, Ellen DeGeneres shared a throwback snap of her with her wife Portia De Rossi, and Katy Perry.

The photo was taken in 2013, and the 59-year-old television host was staring at the songwriter’s breasts. After greeting her on her birthday, the television personality also captioned the picture with, “It’s time to bring out the big balloons!”

Her last message made a lot of people furious. Although it was derived from one of Perry’s songs, 2013 hit single “Birthday,” fans believed that it had another meaning. They too think that DeGeneres was very insensitive to make that comment with all the sexual harassment allegations emerging in the industry – specifically with Harvey Weinstein.

One fan said that what the comedienne did was totally unacceptable. Another one also added that he lost respect for the writer-producer after seeing her post.

He was also saddened by her action as she could be a bad example to her fans, especially the young ones. A Twitter user even claimed that what she did won’t be called harassment because it was done by someone like DeGeneres.

People defending DeGeneres

However, there are also some social media users who defended Ellen DeGeneres and insisted that she is actually Katy Perry’s friend.

So, what she did might be part of their bond and nothing offensive. One Twitter user said that the “Finding Dory” star was teasingly greeting Katy Perry. “How are those objectifying women?” the commentator asked. There was even someone who criticized other people for comparing what she said to what Harvey Weinstein did.

DeGeneres talking about sexual misconduct

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres talked about sexual misconduct on the Thursday episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

She said that harassment is not a male or female thing and doesn’t only happen in Hollywood or the political world. “This is a human thing,” she said. It could happen everywhere, in the workplace, or at home. In fact, it is happening all over the world, and everyone could be a victim.
