Beyonce recently announced that the proceeds from her new song would go to victims of the calamities that struck Puerto Rico and Mexico. She voiced the new remix version of “Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy Williams, CBS News reported.
There are currently relief efforts being conducted for the victims of the earthquake in Mexico and Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Hollywood celebrities and renowned musicians are working hand in hand to contribute to these operations.
New music
The new remix of “Mi Gente” also has a video that features Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
He plays as a forward for Real Madrid, a football team in the Spanish league, and for the national team in his home country.
The video is a collection of social media live posts, dance classes, amateur clips, and crowdsourced scenes. It also features Diplo, a rapper, and DJ based in Los Angeles, California.
“Mi Gente” is a track originally released in June of this year. The original track is also a remix of “Voodoo Song” by Willy Williams.
It is a song produced with a Latin dance beat, with lyrics translated as “my people.” Part of the lyrics also includes, “Lift up your people / From Texas, Puerto Rico, Dem islands to Mexico.” The official video of the remix with Beyonce’s vocals is posted on the YouTube channel of J Balvin.
Beyonce’s charity efforts
Beyonce’s vocals are sung in both English and Spanish language. Her featured performance appears in the middle of the music remix.
“I am donating my proceeds from this song to hurricane relief charities for Puerto Rico, Mexico, and the other affected Caribbean islands,” the singer wrote on Instagram.
She also added a link to her official website that lists down the charities working toward relief efforts for the victims of the disaster.
Hurricane Maria made a landfall in Puerto Rico a few days ago and killed at least two people. Before this, Hurricanes Harvey and Irma also damaged properties in some parts of the Caribbean.
Moreover, two earthquakes also struck Mexico within September 2017. The first one was a magnitude 8.1 earthquake off the Mexican coast but brought tremors in the capital. The second one was a magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Mexico City that has claimed around 360 lives as of press time, ABC News reported.
Beyonce has joined other international celebrities who have been actively participating in the Puerto Rico and Mexico relief efforts. These celebrities include Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, and Mark Cuban. The “Love On Top” songstress has also joined in the hurricane relief efforts in Houston, Texas.
