Renowned female singer Selena Gomez is now one of Time magazine’s “46 Women Who Are Changing The World.” The 25-year-old “It Ain’t Me” singer has been featured in the list by the magazine, which highlighted the most prominent women who are change-makers in today’s society.
The same list also profiled other prominent women in various fields. They include Hillary Clinton, Kellyanne Conway, Ellen DeGeneres, Aretha Franklin, Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Phan and Oprah Winfrey. The list also has women such as Barbara Walters, Kathryn Sullivan, Danica Patrick, Rita Dove and Eileen Collins.
Gomez’s particular description as written by Time read, “the first person to reach 100 million followers on Instagram.” Because of this, photographer Luisa Dörr shot the female singer, along with 11 other names on the list, with the use of an iPhone.
Selena Gomez’s reaction
From the moment the cover was announced online, she took to Instagram to share what she felt about her name included in the prestigious set. She posted, “Sometimes it’s incredibly difficult to wake up every day knowing there is so much on in the world... I ask how can this change? Will it actually ever change?”
She added that when she hears about the women who are changing the world each day, she is inspired by them. She wrote, “I got so lucky Time, but thank you for highlighting the power of what we can and will always strive to be...
I hope this is just the beginning of more change.”

Her mother’s role
Time also featured an exclusive interview with Gomez, alongside the cover image. She revealed how her mom played an important role in becoming the woman that she is now.
Her mother, Mandy Teefey worked several jobs to provide for her children, according to Gomez. The singer also told Time how her mom understands the value of hard work and passing on this lesson to her.
“She taught me everything I know,” she said. “How when people come at you with their worst, you should come at them with your best.”
Being named as one of the biggest social media influencers in the world, the singer also shared how the platform has played a huge role in her life.
She loves sharing about her life online, and having people of the same age as her read her content, Time reported. She encouraged fans to share what they feel so they can connect with people around them.
Gomez was catapulted to fame during her appearances on Disney Channel several years back. "46 Women Who Are Changing The World" is a special project of the magazine.
