The making of Freddie Mercury’s biopic has been delayed by some years. After the long wait, fans of the Queen and its frontman will finally see the light of the day as the movie based on the band, and its lead vocalist's life is now in the works.

Rami Malek has been cast to play the role of the 1970s rock star. In fact, the 36-year-old actor’s first photo as the “Bohemian Rhapsody” hitmaker is now revealed, and he exactly looks like him.

The first glimpse of Malek in character

In the snap, Rami Malek was wearing Freddie Mercury’s iconic Live Aid outfit from the 1985 concert at Wembley Stadium, and he was as flamboyant as the late singer. The gig was said to be Queen’s greatest single live performance.

Entertainment Weekly revealed the “Mr. Robot” star’s photo while he is in character on its Twitter page. “Rami Malek is Freddie Mercury in this 'Bohemian Rhapsody' first look,” its caption read.

The “Need for Speed” actor transformed to become the singer-songwriter, although the biggest obvious change was just the addition of the late performer’s signature mustache.

"When you're able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror, it's a very affirming moment," he told Entertainment Weekly.

The exploration of the band and its vocalist’s story

The upcoming biopic will explore Queen’s journey from the 1970s when Freddie Mercury joined Brian May and Roger Taylor.

The film, too, will feature the band’s memorable performance at Live Aid in 1985. This happened six years before the frontman died because of complications from Aids.

Bryan Singer, who will direct the film, said that the movie wouldn’t be like the usual and traditional biopic viewers see. In fact, it will be a celebration of the band’s music.

In an interview with the Independent, Rami Malek also revealed that the film wouldn’t just be about Freddie Mercury’s dark story, as the movie will also honor his life.

Regarding his voice, fans are now wondering how it will be tracked to sound like the Queen’s vocalist.

The actor explained that their voice would be combined to look like the original singer’s tone with a touch of his real intonation. In fact, he is also spending some time in Abbey Road Studios to work on that.

Other cast members

Queen’s biopic movie also cast Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello, and Gwilym Lee as the band’s other members. The group’s guitarist Brian May even shared a photo on his Instagram page to reveal the complete line-up.

He even posted another snap of the recreated Live Aid stage for the movie. The film has no official title yet, but it is set to be released in December 2018.
