“Outlander” Season 3 is all about James “Jamie” Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) figuring out how to live without each other. The third installment’s premiere episode tackled the separation of the lead characters, as Claire has time-traveled to 1940s Boston while Jamie is still fighting for his life in the 1746 Battle of Culloden. The series’ latest episode showed fans how Jamie misses Claire so much even when she is reunited with her first husband, Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies). Now, fans are wondering if Claire and Frank would rekindle their old feelings after the World War II nurse gave birth to her daughter, Brianna.
Claire and Frank’s rocky relationship
Caitriona Balfe shared to Elle that Claire Randall still loves Frank but she is aware that she cannot give what her first husband needs. The 37-year-old Irish actress added that Frank will never give Claire what Jamie gave her. Because of this, Claire and Frank remain unhappy in each other’s arms despite having baby Brianna on their lives.
Sam Heughan’s on-screen partner added that there would be lesser steamy bed scenes between Claire and Frank. “The show got known for its sex scenes so much, but we’re telling a love story, and the sex is very integral to telling that story,” Caitriona told Elle in an interview. “Yes, people want the steaminess, but it has to have a point,” the actress went on.
Tobias Menzies, for his part, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that his character no longer hopes that he and Claire can still fix things. The 43-year-old English actor said that Frank is a realist and he is aware that they cannot save their marriage anymore. “There's a lot to be grateful for, but he's not with a woman who loves him,” Tobias told the publication.
“Ultimately, when he does meet someone who can give him that, he goes for it,” he added.
Lead stars share reunion details
Meanwhile, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe previously shared the details of Claire and Jamie’s imminent reunion in “Outlander” Season 3. Jamie and Claire are due to cross paths again in the series’ third installment, but things will be complicated.
The 37-year-old Scottish actor said that the main characters would realize that they both become different people.
“The two characters are apart for such a long time and have a great many experiences apart,” Sam told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. He added that Jamie and Claire would encounter numerous quandaries in rebuilding their interrupted romance. However, Caitriona’s leading man assured fans that their upcoming reunion would be a great one.
The highly anticipated Jamie-Claire get-together will take place in the Edinburgh Print Shop. “Outlander” Season 3 airs Sundays of STARZ Channel. New episodes are also available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in U.K. on Mondays. Stay tuned for more news and updates about Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.
