Stopping by the favorite watering hole Odd Side Ales, this author was convulsed to see Honey Blue Blue on the beer board. The reference to reality television star Honey Boo Boo is unmistakable.
Inquiry was made to a barista friend regarding the inspiration for the Michigan blueberry ale. And yes, even down to beer style -- blonde -- the tow-headed Alana Thompson was immortalized. HBB joins OSA's ranks of quirky beer names, the most famous being Bean Flicker. What's next? Octomom Oktoberfest? Duggar Dank? Mama June may boast a Baywatch body but can she claim a brewery label?
HBB should heed Willy Wonka?
There's a deeper connection between reality TV Mama June, Honey Boo Boo, and her beer. Honey Blue Blue juxtaposes the chubby TLC star's obesity with Violet Beauregard of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." The gluttonous Violet ate the three-course dinner gum, turned blue (from the blueberry pie) and blew up into a big berry.
Is the microbrewery hinting that the celebrity will expand into a plump little blueberry if she doesn't lose weight? Probably not, but the metaphor is apparent.

It is ironic that Roald Dahl portrayed Violet with a pageant parent and that June Shannon got famous on "Toddlers & Tiaras." Interestingly, the family made a living off obesity in the "trailer trash" TLC show "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." Now on WEtv "From Not to Hot" weight loss is Mama June's new shtick.
In 2015, "The Doctors" advised the celebrities to "dejuice" or die of such complications as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart failure. What the pageant mom is winning at, the kid is failing.
