Even though Game of Thrones is approaching its end with season 8, the show’s fans aren’t too sad about it. HBO has officially confirmed that around five prequels of the show are already in the making. The filming of which is scheduled to begin next month, a report by Market Watch suggests.

The first spin-off will probably air next year or possibly during early 2019. Show-runners, David Benioff and D.B Weiss, will not be a part of it.

They will be busy shooting the history-drama TV series, “Confederate.” “The Song of Ice And Fire” series writer, George R. R. Martin, however, will very much be a part of the show. He confirmed in an interview that he, along with Bryan Cogman, will be the series’ official writers and producers.

The prequels

Martin posted an official post on LiveJournal about the upcoming show. Well-known writers like Max Borenstein, Carly Wray, Brian Helgeland and Jane Goldman will also be a part of the prequels. They are known for their work in “Kong: Skull Island,” “The Leftovers,” “Legend,” and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” respectively.

They will take over each of the prequel seasons of “Game of Thrones.” Martin further stated that fans must not expect to see all the five seasons immediately.

Some fans have taken positively to the “prequel” news, whereas others have simply shown uncertainty towards it. Fans are hoping that the prequels will be as good as the original "Game of Thrones" series. Interestingly, HBO still hasn’t confirmed exactly how many “Game of Thrones” prequels are in the making. The network representative, in May, said that they will take “as much or as little time as the writers need,” to make progress in the development of the prequels. They will take their own sweet time to evaluate the scripts. Meanwhile, the final season of “Game of Thrones” has officially entered production and the series’ last instalment is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2019.

The official date for the same hasn’t been revealed yet.

Season 7

"Game of Thrones" season 7 was full of excitement. It remains, undeniable, that it was exciting to watch Jon Snow finally touch one of the dragons in “Game of Thrones” season 7. While viewers were aware of his true identity, it wasn’t properly highlighted until this episode. George R. R. Martin’s novel series, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” showcased the teaser long back. The ones who have read the book probably waited for a pretty long time for this event to take place.
