The statement released by the ex-couple states that the duo separated "earlier this year," however, some reports claim that the split happened a while back. Initially, the separation was kept private so that the two could take some time to adjust to their own lives. However, the 42-year-old singer revealed that with time, it was getting "weird" for them to keep this news a secret, as people would ask them romantic questions all the time.

When asked why they announced the news now, she said that "there’s no perfect time, so we just decided to do it.” In their joint statement, the former couple also stated that they will always be around to support "each other and our family."

She said that the two are so in love with each other that it has reached a point where they're like "friends," further adding that "there's a deep love there."
