The latest updates for the "Venom" spin-off movie will feature "Rogue One" actor Riz Ahmed being cast as Carnage and a new origin story for Eddie Brock's powers.

Who is Carnage?

It seems that Sony teased a new cast member in the "Venom" spin-off as Riz Ahmed is rumored to play villainous symbiote Carnage in the film.

According to Tracking Board, Ahmed is being negotiated to be part of the movie joining alongside"Mad Maxx: Fury Road" Tom Hardy. Their report came from two different sources, one stating that the actor had the part, while the other said that Sony is considering him for Carnage or another role.

Ahmed is known for his movie roles in "Nightcrawler" and "Night Of, " but his most famous gig was playing Bodhi Rook in "Rouge One: A Star Wars Story" last year. With Sony expanding their "Spider-Man" universe with the likes of "Venom" and the "Black Cat and Silver Sable," Ahmed's career will likely shine brighter now that he is being cast as one of Peter Parker's dangerous enemies.

Carnage in the comics is the offspring of the Venom symbiote bonded with the psychotic serial killer Cletus Cassidy. Cletus is Eddie Brock's cellmate until the symbiote reunited with the latter and escaped prison. Little did Eddie know that his symbiote produced another one and bonded with Cletus, transforming him into a monster and killed everyone in prison.

Cletus liked his new found power as he caused chaos everywhere he goes. The villain has all of the powers of its predecessor and begun his rampage throughout New York. It took the combined might of Spider-Man and Venom to take down the murderous villain.

New origin story

Sony announced the working title for the "Venom" spin-off film as "Antidote" and comic book fans speculated that the name could mean a different origin story as to how Eddie acquired his powers.

In the comics, Eddie gained his abilities by accident after he saw Peter Parker, who is the symbiote's first host, removing it from his body inside a church. The black ooze then dropped on Eddie and desperately tries to get rid of it but to no avail. The symbiote bonded with him revealing the knowledge that Peter is Spider-Man and both wanted revenge against him.

Omega Underground reported that Eddie will gain his powers from a pandemic virus rather than an alien parasite, thus separating it from the source material. The publication added that Hardy's character is nursing a fatal disease and bonding with the symbiote is the only way to cure his illness.

Other fans theorize that "Antidote" could also mean the appearance of Anti-Venom, Eddie's other alter-ego in the Marvel comics.

Sony plans to launch the spin-off movie on Oct. 5, 2018
