Two eagle-eyed "Game of Thrones" fans discovered a very creepy detail in the amazing fight scene between Arya and Brienne. A woman who looks like Catelyn appears behind Podrick and then again behind Arya when the word "mother" is pronounced. How could this be explained?

The creepy woman

The Reddit user GrennsGal recently pointed out that during the sparring session between Brienne and Arya Stark a woman in a long dress appears in the background.

A woman who resembles Catelyn Stark, which is crazy, because we know that Lady Stoneheart (that's the name Catelyn uses after her resurrection in the books) won't be featured in the TV show. Nonetheless, as Redditor microhive noticed, the woman seems to appear again later. Check the clip below:

You can see the woman appearing for the first time at 1:14, and then again at 2:00. There is more: a similar figure also appears behind Podrick at 0:05 (but this one is probably unrelated). If you wish, you can also enter the photo gallery by clicking on the camera icon above: we underlined the mysterious woman in three different screenshots.

Mother?

The woman appears for the first time when Arya asks Brienne "Didn't you vow to serve both my mother's daughters?" This is quite a coincidence, and yes, the woman actually resemble Catelyn Stark, but we can't say for sure if this is an easter egg. GreensGal noted in another comment that this person might be just a regular Winterfell citizen, since she may be the same maid we can see at 2:01 in the following video:

Even if the woman is really the maid we can see after Arya's arrival at Winterfell, is still weird that we saw the same woman passing by behind Arya at least two times.

Our opinion

We're pretty sure that the woman is not Catelyn Stark. But if we consider how often subtle callbacks and hidden details are featured in the "Game of Thrones" episodes, we must say that this may be intentional.

A nod to all the fans that would have loved to see Lady Stoneheart in the TV series.

What other fans think

GrennsGal's discovery fueled a nice conversation on Reddit. Just like us, many fans believe this may be intentional. The woman in the background is not Catelyn, but her appearance is really creepy, and the possibility of a very subtle callback to the books is fascinating. As many other Redditors noted, it's a good catch, but this detail doesn't mean Catelyn is going to be back in the show.

As Redditor Boringoldcookie wrote, "it's probably nothing but a nod to obsessive fans like us." And maybe to George R.R. Martin himself, who disagreed with the decision to cut off Lady Stoneheart from the show.

Don't forget! The fifth episode of "Game of Thrones" season 7, titled "Eastwatch," airs on August 13, on HBO.
