There will be new faces in "Riverdale" season 2, plenty of which are expected to rock story lines. The focus has been mostly on Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) but there are more to expect. That would include Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) who will be the first woman (ever) tied up to the criminally-inclined Southside Serpents.
When season 1 ended, most saw how Jughead (Cole Sprouse) made the big move to Southside. He got that official jacket and seemed pretty much comfortable with his new friends. Witnessing everything was Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) who ended up heartbroken.
From that point alone, the question now out is how long the Jughead-Betty romance will last. Season 2 could see an imminent breakup, especially with the entry of a new face in Toni Topaz.
Topaz to factor in breakup
According to Vanessa Morgan in an interview with Bustle, Topaz will be among the first friends Jughead will have. Being a female, most would initially take it as a threat to the romance.
That may be partly true with Morgan admitting she will stir up things for Jughead. Would that include stealing Juggy away from Betty?
While all that seems imminent, Topaz’ role may be nothing more than to break the relationship between the two Riverdale lovebirds and nothing else. Most would assume a new relationship involving Toni and Juggy though all that got nixed when Morgan revealed that her character was bisexual.
All part of the 'Dark Betty' script?
In a previous post, it was mentioned that "Riverdale" fans should expect the return of “Dark Betty”. There hasn't been any credible angle on how this will transpire. The entry of Toni Topaz could factor in and make sense.
By revealing that her character will be bisexual, there seems to be a hidden agenda brewing.
Hiram Lodge (or even Hermione (Marisol Nichols)) may have a hand, aware that Betty has been doing her share of research on the vices happening in Riverdale.
Will Topaz Blossom in Riverdale?
With a potential relationship with Jughead out of the picture, who could Toni Topaz possibly be partnered with? There is no official word for now though an alliance (at the least) with Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) could happen.
Morgan and Petsch are best friends in real life so working together should make sense. If there is an actual relationship resulting from the friendship, it would not be the first time for Vanessa. She played a lesbian on “The Shannara Chronicles” and says she loves to represent different people. Seeing how Cheryl unleashed her dark side last season, a new bond involving Topaz should be interesting and in line with the “Riverdale” season 2 theme.
