Someone is set to be back in the coming “Quantico” season 3. Russell Tovey, who plays the role of the wannabe CIA agent Harry Doyle, is now promoted as a series regular and will be seen in the coming new installment.
After being driven away to join the CIA-FBI task force and threatened by his former love and Farm classmate Sebastian (David Lim), he will definitely be back with a vengeance. Will he continue his dreams to be an undercover British Intelligence operative?
Russell’s opened-ended story
It seems like Russell Tovey has left the television show unexpectedly.
In fact, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, former executive producer Joshua Safran confirmed his exit.
Harry Doyle was last seen on the verge of life and death as someone was pointing a gun to his head. However, it was not revealed what really happened to him onscreen. But, the television producer also earlier revealed that his departure might not be permanent.
“We made a choice to leave [their story] open-ended because we definitely want to revisit it,” he told EW. He narrated that he learned someone said that Russell’s storyline was written quite hastily. So, he admitted that it was really a “secure choice” for them. “We really wanted to say, ‘This character’s not done, this loop is not closed,’” he added.
Thus, if the drama thriller series was not renewed, at least, his journey ended “emotionally right.”
The 35-year-old star’s character is described to be like half Thomas Crown and half like a grown-up Artful Dodger. “Is just as likely to seduce your husband as he is to pick his pocket when it's over,” the description continued.
Returning and exiting characters
Meanwhile, “Quantico” Season 3 will return shorter than usual with only 13 episodes. It also has a new showrunner replacing Joshua Safran with “Code Black” creator Michael Seitzman.
However, Safran will still be its executive producer and consultant, the Hollywood Reporter reported. A lot of fans thought that the television series wouldn't be renewed because of its second installment's poor acceptance and ratings.
Fortunately, it will definitely return, thanks to its strong international sales and lucrative Netflix deal. But, original stars like Yasmine Al Massri and Pearl Thusi won’t be back to reprise their roles.
Instead, Marlee Matlin was recently added to play the role of Jocelyn Turner. She is an ex-FBI agent who is known for being the best undercover agent of her time, although the FBI will bring her back again to join a special unit.
Of course, Priyanka Chopra will be back as Alex Parrish. Other stars that will be seen in the show are Jake McLaughlin, Johanna Braddy, and Blair Underwood.
