Love is dead, or so many started to believe. This was how the internet reacted when two of Hollywood’s most beloved celebrities – Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced that they were getting legally separated after going through challenges in their eight-year marriage.
To say that that the news came as a shock was an understatement for fans of the couple who have always believed that the couple had an ideal relationship. Anna Faris and Chris Pratt met on the set of 2007’s “Take Me Home Tonight” where Chris admitted that he knew Anna was “the one” the first moment they met.
It took a while before they started dating and getting serious.
Their love story has been followed by their fans from the beginning when they were only starting to make a name for themselves via “Scary Movie” and “Parks and Recreation.” That is why the news of the split hit them harder than other divorce news and rumors.
However, the news was jointly confirmed by Anna and Chris through their respective social media accounts.“We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed," the announcement made by Faris and Pratt read. "We still love each other and will always cherish our time together.”
The beginning of the end
In the same vein as how the internet received news about Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s split, the news of Anna Faris and Chris Pratt’s separation was met with netizens’ collective sorrow and frustration.
Many believed that the couple was immune to the strains of their growing fame as well as tabloid rumors hinting at infidelity. But as it turned out, this was not the case.
Way back in 2015, Anna first admitted that she was not as impervious to Hollywood gossip as she would have liked to believe when infidelity rumors involved her husband.
She said that it was “weirdly stinging” and took them by surprise because they have always had such a good relationship.
In her podcast “Anna Faris is Unqualified,” the actress admitted that she felt really hurt when she started reading rumors about her husband and while they talk about the strains of being a public couple, she also felt vulnerable because of their constant separation due to Chris’ busy schedule, reported Cosmopolitan.
Internet chaos
Because of all the fans rooting for their relationship, it came as no surprise that Twitterverse went a little mad after learning about Anna Faris and Chris Pratt’s separation.
“Honest to God more sad about Chris Pratt and Anna Faris separating than I was about my own parent's divorce,” Twitter user @kahala said.
“Chris Pratt and Anna Faris have the world shook and have confirmed: LOVE DOES NOT EXIST,” Twitter user Jenifer Reve posted on her own account.
While there were those who have already lost hope, there were still others who maintained that the couple will get back together eventually.
