Hurricane Harvey is still wreaking havoc in Texas and has already claimed at least ten lives. Moreover, the number is expected to rise as officials begin the recovery efforts. It was reported that the catastrophic flooding is projected to proceed throughout southeast Texas for the next few days. As the hurricane continues, celebrities are playing their part in relief efforts.
Hart challenges fellow stars to donate
Comedian and actor Kevin Hart challenged his fellow celebs on Monday to donate to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and pledged $25,000 to the Red Cross through an Instagram video.
Hart said that stars have participated in many meaningless challenges and finished them, but this one was serious. He noted that people were in bad shape and they needed help, so he decided to be the example.
Hart reached out to Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, JAY-Z, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake to make donations and continue with the challenge by tagging their other famous friends to donate too. In his second video, where he doubled his donation, he called out T.I., Nelly, Usher, Ludacris and all the other members of Houston Rockets. He also called out on Chris Brown and Drake.
Chris Brown, Chris Young, and Dwayne Johnson answered the call
Chris Breezy posted a video on Instagram, telling Hart that he had accepted his challenge and that they were supposed to come together. He added that he was donating $100,000 for everyone out there in Texas and encouraged everyone to donate and help out. Chris also wrote in the caption that he was skeptical about the Red Cross and so he chose to donate directly to the people.
Dwayne Johnson also responded to Harts call by saying he appreciated Hart and donated $25,000 to the Red Cross. He remembered how he and his family survived category five Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and added that he wouldn’t call out on his celebrity friends since they knew what to do in donating money, and pleaded with his fans to give what they could to the cause.
Chris Young pledged $100,000 of his own to a GoFundMe page which benefits the Red Cross. He said that he has friends and family there, and was certain that his house, located in one of the hardest hit areas, might have been damaged, but was worried more about his family, friends, and neighbors, and he was willing to help. Country stars, Lady Antebellum revealed that all money that will come from their merchandise sales in Dallas concert on Saturday will go towards the course.
Beyonce is from Houston, one of the affected areas
Beyonce, who is a Houston Native, told the Houston Chronicles that she was working with her team to organize a plan of action to assist. Drake also wrote on Instagram that he was working with DJ Future the Prince to help the people of Texas. Nicki Minaj has also pledged a contribution. Other stars are on a Twitter campaign urging their followers to donate.
