joss whedon’s community weblog, Whedonesque, announced it is “closing down” after 15 years. There was no specific reason given as to the decision to do so.

In a post on Monday, August 21, the site said “15 years is a long time and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. But now it’s time to say goodbye.” The statement said that the announcement will be the last thread on the weblog.

However, the weblog also stated the possibility that it was not closing down permanently because “the site will at some stage become a read only site.” The weblog administrators then thanked the site’s posters.

The Whedonesque Twitter account meanwhile announced that it will not be taken down.

Accusations by Whedon’s ex-wife

Reasonable speculations though point to the published essay made by the ex-wife of Joss Whedon a few days earlier accusing him of hypocrisy and having affairs with other women while professing as an advocate of women’s rights.

In a piece published on The Wrap, Kai Cole wrote Joss Whedon admitted that during their 15 years of marriage, “he hid multiple affairs and a number of inappropriate emotional ones that he had with his actresses, co-workers, fans, and friends.”

Joss Whedon 'deceived me'

Cole wrote that the writer director never conceded the hypocrisy of preaching feminist ideals to the world at the same time taking away her right to make choices based on the truth.

She accused Whedon of deception so that “he could have everything he wanted.”

Whedon’s ex-wife said she wanted women to know that the writer-director is not who he pretends to be. Cole also wrote she wanted organizations honoring her ex-husband for his works to advance women’s right to “think twice” before giving him recognitions in the future.

Cole concluded that regardless of what happens and how people will react to her statements, she no longer have to carry the burden of Whedon’s deception and that she is now free.

Joss Whedon is not commenting

The Avengers” writer/director is not commenting on the accusations of his former wife. But the editor of The Wrap posted a response coming from the spokesperson of Joss Whedon, which said that Cole’s story “includes inaccuracies and misrepresentations” but out of respect to Cole and concern on his children, Whedon is not giving a comment.

Joss Whedon was both writer and director of “The Avengers” and “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” movies. He was nominated for an OSCAR screenwriting in "Toy Story" but he is most well-known for his works in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
