Entertainment Weekly recently reported the confirmation of directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa to work with a new movie that will focus on the characters of The Joker and harley quinn. Fans and viewers earlier saw the villains featured in the movie “Suicide Squad.”

The characters of The Joker and Harley Quinn would usually be featured either as supporting roles in Batman movies or as part of a team of villains such as in “Suicide Squad.” But this time, actors Jared Leto and Margot Robbie will be back to portray two of the famous enemies in the world of Batman.

Ficarra and Requa were best known for the movie “Crazy Stupid Love,” that featured actors Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Steve Carell. These directors also directed the movies “I Love You Phillip Morris” in 2009, “Focus” in 2015, and “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” in 2016, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Further details

The upcoming Joker and Harley Quinn movie will be a criminal love story; sources told The Hollywood Reporter. It will reportedly be an “insane and twisted” romance flick between the two villains. Glimpses of their love story have been seen in “Suicide Squad,” when Joker turned Dr. Harleen Quinzel into his sidekick.

The Hollywood Reporter further noted that it is still unclear whether the upcoming movie will be based on the “Suicide Squad” storyline.

However, the report made it clear that it will exist in the mainstream DC Extended Universe, which contains the stories for “Wonder Woman,” “Batman v Superman” and “Justice League.”

Warner Bros is currently starting to develop a separate DC world in its films, which falls beyond the mainstream DC Universe. One example is the upcoming “Batman” stand-alone, the movie that Ben Affleck reportedly bowed out from.

Joker origin movie

The much-anticipated movie about the villain duo is also not based, or related to the stand-alone Joker movie allegedly in the works. Entertainment Weekly reported that the Joker spin-off film would be produced under a new Warner Bros banner, and separate from the DC Extended Universe.

The Joker spin-off movie will not feature Jared Leto, who has portrayed the character in the previous films.

Todd Phillips and Scott Silver are signed up for the script of this stand-alone film. Martin Scorsese will produce it. This movie is rumored to be set in Gotham City in the early 1980s. The production team wants to turn the film into a “gritty and grounded” crime story.
