"Grey's Anatomy" has been no stranger to bringing family members into the show. Three out of four of Derek Shepherd's sisters have now appeared, along with all (that we presume) of Meredith's half-sisters. Even Maggie, Cristina, and Jackson have had their mothers show up throughout the years. The "Grey's" family is about to get bigger for season 14, as another doctor will see a family member show up.
Giacomo Gianniotti has said that his character's sister is going to appear in "Grey's Anatomy" season 14. The details aren't entirely clear, but she will stir up some trouble on the show.
DeLuca's sister will be Italian
While at the Disney/ABC party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Gianniotti shared that his character's sister will come from Italy. The reason why isn't clear yet. It could be for something medical or because she is a doctor that Grey Sloan Memorial needs to fly in. All that is currently known right now is that the character will have some heated words with her brother, and there will be some Italian spoken. Gianiotti was born in Rome, Italy and speaks Italian. He is looking forward to using it on the screen.
DeLuca's character is Italian. That isn't something really touched on in the show, but that's partly because DeLuca's character hasn't been fully explored over the years since his addition in season 11.
With the loss of Stephanie Edwards, this could be the chance to explore his character instead of leaving him on the sidelines. The actor has said that layers of his character will be peeled back more over the season.
The doctors of 'Grey's Anatomy' will be uncomfortable
The sister's name hasn't been revealed yet, but that's not the only thing.
Gianniotti shares that her profession will be interesting but doesn't say exactly what that profession is. He has said that she will make a lot of the doctors at the hospital feel uncomfortable.
It is possible that she will be a lawyer that comes in due to the fire at the hospital. A lot of patients could have been negatively affected due to the fire.
The parents of the little girl that Stephanie burned herself to save may decide to sue the hospital for the events of the fire.
The actress for the role has already been cast, but ABC hasn't revealed who that is yet. Gianniotti is excited for fans to see her.
"Grey's Anatomy" returns to ABC on Thursday, September 28 at 8/7c on ABC. There will be a two-hour season premiere, picking up from where fans were left with the explosive season 13 finale.
