“Game of Thrones” Season 7 episode 6 ended with Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and his meager band of brothers venturing out beyond the wall to capture a wight. The mad mission’s goal is to get proof of the looming threat of the undead to temporarily forge an alliance between the warring houses of Westeros.
But this is easily said than done. They need to capture a wight alive and encountering one will likely send more to their location.
That is unless they are found by the entire undead army first which means that they’re as good as dead. At least that’s what conventional logic would tell viewers.
Jon and company will beat the odds and survive the winds of winter
But as most viewers know, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have a way of circumventing logic and surprising fans in the most bizarre yet amazing ways possible. And a quick look at some of the leaked details from the episode, and the season as a whole reveals how Jon Snow and company will beat the odds and survive the winds of winter.
According to the Daily Mail, leaked details regarding the season 7 plot revealed that Jon and company will indeed take casualties.
These include Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) who fall to the wight army.
The onslaught will leave the survivors trapped on an island inside a frozen lake surrounded by wights and White Walkers. This is reminiscent to “Game of Thrones” season 6 episode 9 where Jon appears to be alone and facing the full brunt of the Bolton Cavalry.
This time, however, he is faced with a near infinite number of undead. But just like how the Knights of the Vale rode in to save the day, so will the Mother of Dragons save the King in the North.
According to a post on Reddit, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) rides in along with three of her dragons to save her last remaining ally in Westeros. As her dragons keep the shambling mass of undead at bay, the Dragon Queen allows the weary survivors, with the exception of Jon, to fly with her to safety.
The King in the North, on the other hand, is pretty much dead until his uncle Benjen Stark/Coldhands (Joseph Mawle) sacrifices himself to get him to safety.
The raid beyond the wall serves as a pyrrhic victory for the side of the living.
However, it is also at great cost as the dragon Viserion falls to the Night King (Richard Brake), floundering into the frozen lake. He then resurrects the dead dragon as his own mount which now breathes blue flame.
The night king then proceeds to melt the wall with is the dragon. The raid beyond the wall serves as a pyrrhic victory for the side of the living. On one hand, they did achieve their goal of capturing a wight. However, the loss of one of the three Targaryen dragons to the White Walkers drastically reduces their forces and gave their enemy the perfect method to destroy the Wall: dragon fire.
