Ser Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) during the “Game of Thrones” season 7 finale has finally made the decision that everyone has been waiting for him to do – leave his twin sister/lover Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) behind. He fathered all three of their children as a result of their incestuous act throughout the years, betraying the late king Robert Baratheon. For everyone, the queen is nothing but a monster who kills people who get in her way, and the season finale has again proved her monstrous nature. She lied to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) that she is fighting with them to defeat the White Walkers.

However, Jaime disagreed with her plans, and Nikolaj explained why his character finally left Cersei and decided to join the Great War.

Jaime vs Cersei

In a recent interview, Nikolaj talked about his decision to leave Cersei during the season 7 finale of “Game of Thrones.”

“There were so many other times when I thought that would be it, time for him to pack his bags, but I guess she finally took it one step too far,” he told the Huffington Post. He said that Jaime knows that all of them don’t stand a chance if they don’t fight together, considering how strong the White Walkers are. His sister knows it too, but her decision did not meet his calculations.

“I don’t know why it took him so long to realize what the rest of the world always knew — that she is a crazy monster — but he finally did.

And then he left,” he added.

Does Jaime still love Cersei?

In the “Game of Thrones” season finale, Cersei tried to stop Jamie from leaving through The Mountain, and when he told her to give the order to kill him, she didn’t. Jaime told her that he doesn’t believe her. Nikolaj was also asked what those words really mean for his character.

The actor said that saying it to Cersei’s face means that he doesn’t believe in their relationship any longer, and he doesn’t love her anymore. Fans apparently rejoiced when Jaime made that decision despite Cersei being pregnant with his child.

What’s next for Jaime and Cersei?

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also said that there will be a lot more to happen in “Game of Thrones.” For Jaime and Cersei, he said that his character’s twin sister will always be there.

However, the love that he has for her is no longer there after he realized how monstrous she has become. Interestingly, though, Nikolaj said that he might be wrong.

The “Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date is expected to take place in 2018, but it might wait until spring 2019.
