Matt Lauer was axed from "Today" in November 2017 following a report, from an unnamed female NBC employee, that he sexually harassed her during the Winter Olympics, in Sochi, Russia in 2014, which continued when they went back to New York. His wife, Dutch model Annette Roque subsequently filed for divorce. Now, a recent report from Page six suggests that the divorce is already close to being finalized, which might cost him several million dollars.
Matt Lauer's divorce is 'imminent'
Unidentified sources spoke with Page Six and said that Matt Lauer is already in the final stages of his divorce with Roque.
“The divorce is imminent. Matt is really just laying low at the moment. He plays golf and sees his friends. His focus has been on the kids, and he knows there’s nothing he can do apart from wait,” said the insider.
According to Money, Matt Lauer was on a $17 million annual contract with NBC's "Today" before he was signed to a $25 million contract, making him one of TV's highest-paid journalists. The Associated Press previously reported that the disgraced news anchor will not get any financial settlement from the network because he was terminated "for cause." Following his termination, he put some of his properties on the market, including his Upper East Side apartment as well as his Hampton's Sag Harbor 25-acre estate.
Before Matt Lauer was fired from "Today," where he worked for more than ten years, his net worth was estimated to be around $60 million. Now, he will reportedly have to dish out millions for his ongoing divorce proceedings with Roque.
Matt Lauer admitted liability for his appalling actions
In a statement, Matt Lauer admitted that he is responsible for his actions and expressed his regrets, saying, "Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed." He also added that fixing the damage will definitely take time and a lot of effort, but he is determined.
Fox previously reported that Annette Roque kicked Matt Lauer out of their family home following the allegations against him. However, it wasn't that easy because he initially refused to leave, according to an unnamed source who told Us Weekly.
Two weeks after the sexual misconduct allegations, former "Today" production assistant Addie Zinone also revealed that she had a consensual sexual relationship with Matt Lauer in 2000.
However, she made it clear that it was an abuse of power, according to Variety. She added that her career would've been harmed if she refused to give in to his flattery.
Matt Lauer and Annette Roque have been married for 19 years. They share three children together: Jack, 17, Romy, 15, and Thijs, 12.
