Tarek and Christina El Moussa have both filed their divorce petitions after they first announced their separation last December. The male "Flip or Flop" host was the first to submit his documents, while his estranged wife filed her divorce papers in the Orange County courts just a week ago.

Inside Tarek and Christina's divorce

According to E! News, Christina is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two children, Taylor and Brayden, on top of spousal support and lawyer fees. She cited irreconcilable differences as the grounds for divorce and listed May 23, 2016, on the separation date.

This was supported by Tarek's recent statement wherein he revealed that the two of them had been separated for several months before they made it public. He also admitted one of the reasons that fueled their decision to call it quits was communication.

"There's so many things, it happened so fast, you know? It was like back to back to back to back and we slowly started separating … I think just life happens," he told ET Online. "There's so much, so fast, especially in this day and age. [Our relationship] just kind of fell apart."

He went on and confessed that the separation has turned his life around and added that the hardest part of it was adjusting to a whole new chapter in his life. A few days after Christina filed her divorce petition, the El Moussas held separate celebrations for their son's second birthday over the weekend.

Of co-parenting and living their separate lives

The "Flip or Flop" duo thought it would be comfortable for the parties involved if they will celebrate their son's special day separately. Hence, Tarek delegated a truck-themed birthday bash for Brayden in Beuna Park, California, that was attended by family and friends.

When asked about his former wife's response to his divorce petitions, the Tarek could only promise that they will continue to be co-parenting partners for their children even after they get divorced.

He reassured the public that both of them will continue working as "Flip or Flop" co-hosts.

Tarek is also hopeful that he and Christina will "live great lives" after the separation. In fact, the El Moussas are currently going out with their new partners. The male "Flip or Flop" host personally admitted that he is seeing someone new although he added that there is nothing serious and exclusive at the moment.

He refused to talk further about his dating life and reiterated that his top priority will always be his children. Unlike him, Christina is more public about her relationship with her longtime friend, Doug Spedding, since they first stepped out as a couple of months ago.
