Minnette has confirmed that the series will continue to get darker as they explore how one comes back from such a tragedy.
The second season will explore recovery
According to Digital Spy, "13 Reasons Why" actor Dylan Minnette has come forward and confirmed that the second season's theme will be that of recovery.
He stated that the second season kicks off immediately after Season 1 in which teenager Hannah Baker committed suicide. As Season 1 explored the reasons behind Hannah's suicide, Season 2 is set to explore the aftermath for everyone who knew her.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Minnette shared that the show will be going in some dark directions as they explore the recovery of the characters on the show. He stated that the show will be progressing naturally and that it will become much more emotional because of the nature of the story that they are telling.
Katherine Langford has also added that the show has a very different feel throughout the season. She stated that in some ways the second season of "13 Reasons Why" is almost like a different series entirely.
It has been confirmed that the show will be receiving a new narrator along with seven new actors.
There are many different types of recovery stories to tell
According to Refinery 29, there is no way for fans to know whom the actors are referring to when they speak of recovery. Many of the characters on the show are dealing with terrible things that have happened in their lives.
It has been confirmed that the second season will be delving more into the story line of Jessica who suffered a sexual assault at the hands of her boyfriend’s best friend.
Fans are certain that the show will also examine how character Clay Jensen will slowly begin to recover from the suicide of Hannah Baker, the girl who he was in love with.
The first season focused primary on Clay discovering the reasons behind Hannah's death and fans are curious to see how "13 Reasons Why" will explore moving on from this.
Hannah's parents are set to feature more heavily in the second season as her mother discovers the tapes and hears what drove her daughter to kill herself. In the finale of Season 1, Alex suffered a self-inflicted gunshot to the head and fans wonder if his recovery will be explored in Season 2.
