Westworld, the sci-fi series of HBO has bagged 22 nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards including its stars Sir Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood as the nominees for best lead actor and actress respectively. Along with it, the comedy show ‘Saturday Night Live' also has 22 nominations and is a major contender for the best comedy award. The results were announced by Anna Chlumsky (‘Veep') and Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds') from Television Academy on Thursday.

The third place is occupied by HBO comedy series ‘Veep' has 17.

Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ and Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ both bagged 13 nominations along with the nominations for the best drama series. Their lead actresses Claire For and Elizabeth Moss are nominated for the best lead actress in drama series. Following close behind is the NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ with 11 nominations.

‘Silicon Valley’, ‘Master of None’, ’Modern Family’, ‘Veep’ are some of the shows included in the nominations for the outstanding comedy series.

HBO shows again topped the charts with 110 nominations in total with Netflix on the second position with 91 and the third position went to NBC which has 60 nominations. The 69th annual Emmy Award winners will be announced on September 17th by Stephen Colbert, the famous American comedian, and author.

Other famous nominees

Oscar winning actress, Viola Davis is nominated for ‘How To Get Away With Murder'. Ewan McGregor, Riz Ahmed and Matthew Rhys have been nominated twice for their roles. ‘Feud: Bette and Joan’s stars Susan Sarandon (Bette Davis) and Jessica Lange (Joan Crawford) both have scored nominations.

Benedict Cumberbatch has also been nominated in the best lead actor category for his renowned series ‘Sherlock: The Lying Detective.’

The nominations for best lead actor also include Sterling K Brown and Milo Ventimiglia (both from ‘This Is Us'), Kevin Spacey (‘House Of Cards') and Liev Schreiber (‘Ray Donovan').

The female lead actress nominations also include Robin Wright (‘House Of Cards') and Keri Russell (‘The Americans') along with the names mentioned above.

Facts you need to know about this year’s Emmy

HBO’s widely awaited series Game Of Thrones won’t be included in the nominations as it is starting too late to be included in this year’s nomination and the last year it had started too early that is, before June 1, 2016.

This year’s nominations contain a lot of new series including ‘Stranger Things', ‘Westworld' and ‘The Crown’. Some of the returning series like HBO’s ‘Veep' and ‘Silicon Valley', FX’s ‘Fargo', Netflix’s ‘Master Of None’ are also flooded with nominations.
