Fox entertainment network – which has primarily been airing all the "Wayward Pines" seasons – is reportedly quite confident about the renewal of the third season of the show.
Fans have started assuming that the idea of a third season might be scrapped off altogether because there hasn’t been any announcement since the show’s second season met its conclusion. The "Wayward Pines" season 2 was highly successful. It ended in July 2016 wherein the finale episode carried a major cliff-hanger that led many to believe that a third season might be in the making. In the finale episode of the second season, distinguished creatures of the show called "Abbies" were seen as living along and doing quite well with a newborn human baby. Besides this, all the main characters of the show including Theo (Jason Patric), Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) and others, were seen descending into a deep sleep in their respective pods.
New twist in the plot of the show
This particular scene gave away for a lot of possible developments regarding the storyline of the show. The writer of "Wayward Pines," Blake Crouch is also of the same opinion. According to him, the end of the show was very open-minded. Viewers could predict their future events – all equally holding the possibility of taking place.
The author reportedly told Entertainment Weekly that the show is essentially focused on the concept of humans gradually evolving into "Abbies." Therefore, that is something that will continue to be seen throughout the show. As far as the show is concerned, according to a report published by Deadline, Fox chairman, Gary Newman was heard as saying that while "Wayward Pines" season 3 has not been canceled, the show will air at a later date than anticipated.
