Viewers of 'The Big Bang Theory' witnessed the birth of its youngest character last December 2016. Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) gave birth to her daughter with Howard (Simon Helberg) and they named her Halley, after Halley's Comet.
The baby's face, however, hasn't been shown on camera since her arrival. Fans waiting to get a glimpse of Halley's face in 'The Big Bang Theory' season 11, which returns to CBS this fall, will be in for some more disappointment.
The executive producers of the show have decided from the very beginning that Halley Wolowitz will never appear on camera.
A tribute to grandma
'The Big Bang Theory' bosses made the non-appearance of Halley Wolowitz a conscious decision because it would be a fitting tribute to the baby's grandmother on the show, Debbie Wolowitz. Carol Ann Susi, who lent her voice to the character, also never appeared on camera when she was a guest in the series. While there might have been some plans to show Debbie on camera in the later seasons, it will never happen anymore. Carol Ann Susi died of cancer in November 2014.
"[Halley] is a loving tribute to her grandmother — this is a nice way for us to keep [Mrs. Wolowitz] alive," executive producer Steve Molaro told TV Line after Halley's birth. "It also means we don't have to have a baby on the set, so it solved lots of problems,” he added.
'The Big Bang Theory' has shown Bernadette breastfeeding her baby and Howard carrying Halley but her face remained covered. It will be both challenging and fun for the writers to play out the unseen character as Halley Wolowitz grows up in two more seasons since CBS has renewed the show for season 11 and season 12.
More show milestones
Meanwhile, 'The Big Bang Theory' will have another milestone when it returns in September.
A potential wedding between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) could become the highlight of the new season, but it might take some time to unfold.
The executive producer told Entertainment Weekly that even if Amy accepts Sheldon's proposal, which was the cliffhanger in last season's finale, their relationship has always "moved at a snail's pace." Viewers shouldn't be surprised if Sheldon and Amy’s wedding planning on 'The Big Bang Theory' will also be the same. Viewers shouldn't also wonder if the wedding will be beyond average as Sheldon could push for a "Star Trek" wedding.
The show also stars Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Kaley Cuoco (Penny), Kunal Nayyar (Raj).
