Robert Pattinson, who played the male lead role of Edward Cullen in the popular young adult (YA) fiction "Twilight" recently confessed that he was almost removed from the cast for being too gloomy.
Pattinson's "Twilight" production wanted him out?
According to Hollywood Life, Pattinson said that he was too serious. Then 21-years old, the actor revealed on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show what is what like to be in (an onscreen) relationship with him back when he was doing the movie.
His producers were telling him that his character should be "happy and have fun." Pattinson then asked what could have happened if he listened and portrayed Edward as a joyful vampire. Quite far from the final product, right?
Pattinson added that they even if there were portions of the novel which described the young vampire as cheerful, the actor just went with how he felt about the role. He said that producers gave him a copy of the book and highlighted portions of it every time his character smiled.
Pattinson still decided to go against production and highlighted all the portions wherein his character frowned. It ended up with the producers not liking what he did, which led to his agent telling him to lighten up a bit or else he could be booted out of the movie.
This made him realize that yes, he wants to keep the job and made amends with the producers. Thankfully he found the perfect balance for the character and fans ultimately loved his portrayal of Edward Cullen.
