"My Friend Dahmer" is a movie about the life of Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer before he becomes a serial killer. The movie was directed by Marc Meyers. It is based on the graphic novel of the same name by author John Backderf, more commonly known as Derf. Ross Lynch was cast to play the serial killer in the high school years of the killer. "My Friend Dahmer" already premiered this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. It received great reviews from critics and was so popular that it is now set to be released in theaters.
Ross Lynch did not know who Dahmer was
Ross Lynch was the actor cast for the role of famous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. According to Rolling Stone, the former Disney star had no idea who Dahmer was. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lynch stated that he had no idea whatsoever who the serial killer was. However, Ross did state that he wanted his next role in acting to be something that fans would not expect from him. He certainly nailed that criteria.
Lynch stated that he got to learn about the horrific acts that Dahmer enacted as a serial killer. This included his rampage in between the years 1971 and 1991. This killing took place in the Midwest of the United States and went on for about two decades before Jeffrey Dahmer was finally caught and incarcerated.
In his time as a serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer killed 17 men and boys before he was caught and sentenced to life in jail.
John Backderf was friends with Dahmer
"My Friend Dahmer" is a movie adaptation of the graphic novel created by John Backderf. The novelist revealed that he was actually friends with Jeffrey Dahmer when the boys were teenagers.
The pair went to the same school and at that times there was clear evidence to suspect that Dahmer would eventually go on to become a serial killer. The novel of the same name was released in 2012. It gives the fans an in-depth look into the life of Dahmer as a teenager before he became the serial killer the world knows him as today.
Backderf strongly approved of the choice to cast Ross Lynch as his former friend Jeffrey Dahmer. The actor cast to play Derf himself is Alex Wolff who is best known for his role on the Nickelodeon show "The Naked Brothers Band". Further casting includes such actors as Vincent Kartheiser, Anne Heche, and Dallas Roberts.
"My Friend Dahmer" is due to be released in theaters later this year. An official release date is yet to be confirmed for the movie. Ross Lynch gives a chilling performance starring as the teenage Jeffrey Dahmer.
