The premiere of Season 7 of the popular “Game of Thrones” series is only days away. Throughout the series since the beginning, so many have died. Especially in Cersei Lannister’s wildfire spectacle. Let’s review where we left off and who are still in the game because “when you play the game of thrones, you win, or you die.”
The Starks
In Braavos, Arya gets her eyes back. She kills the Waif and becomes a Faceless Assassin. She returns to Westeros, and the first stop is at Twins where she slits the throat of Walder Frey.
Meanwhile, beyond the Wall, Bran is training to become the Three-Eyed Raven.
He and Meera are eventually attacked by White Walkers, and Leaf, Summer, and Hodor all sacrificed themselves so Meera and Bran can escape. However, they are followed by some White Walkers, and Benjen Stark arrives just in time to save them.
In the North, Jon is brought back to life by Melissandre, and she is now convinced he is the prince who was promised. Jon hangs the traitors (including Olly) and leaves the Nights Watch. He is reunited with Sansa – who has escaped from Winterfell with Theon and escorted by Brienne of Tarth and Podrick.
They decided to retake Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton after finding out he has Rickon. They went to different houses in the North to ask for help for the Battle of the Bastards.
With not enough men, Sansa sends a raven to Petyr Baelish for help, sending the Knights of the Vale just in time in the battle. Jon beats the hell out of Ramsay and Sansa watches his get devoured by his hounds.
The Starks won Winterfell is rightfully theirs again. Davos tells Jon about what Melissandre did to Shireen. Jon banishes Melissandre on the threat of execution.
Bran finds out through one of his visions that Jon is the child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Jon is proclaimed King in the North after Lady Lyanna Mormont’s rousing speech.
The Targaryen and her allies
Daenerys was taken to Vaes Dothrak to be a Dosh Khaleen. Instead, she burns the Khals after telling them that they are not fit to lead.
She comes out of the flame unburnt and the Dothraki all bow to her. She returns to Mereen and saves it from the Masters with the help of all her three dragons.
Daenerys meets with Yara and Theon Greyjoy who brings her ships, and they make an alliance. She names Tyrion as the Hand of the Queen. Meanwhile, Varys comes to Dorne to offer an alliance with the Sand Snakes and the Tyrells. Daenerys leads her army and dragons to set sail towards Westeros.
The Lannisters
Cersei has had it enough with her enemies, especially the High Sparrow. She blows up the Sept of Baelor with wildfire while everyone was there for the trial. After being removed from the Kingsguard, Jamie was sent to retake Riverrun from Blackfish.
While there, he bids Brienne farewell as the next time they see each other, honor compels them to be enemies. He returns to Kingslanding with Cersei crowned Queen.
The others
- Samwell Tarly has made his way to the Citadel to find out more about the White Walkers and their weaknesses. He has also brought along Gilly and Little Sam. Before reaching Citadel, they made a stop at his home, and eventually left with the family’s sword, Heartsbane.
- The Hound is alive. After being left for dead by Arya in Season 4, he is taken in by Brother Ray who was killed by rogue members of the Brotherhood Without Banners. The Hound is now seeking redemption for his past crimes.
- Tormund is attracted to Brienne from the moment he saw her come through the gates of Castle Black.
- Winter has finally arrived, and so are the White Walkers.
That was a lot. Now everyone is in Westeros, the major characters are together, and so much more is still to happen.
“Game of Thrones” returns with Season 7 on HBO on July 16.
