The premiere episode of Game of Thrones season 7 left fans wide-eyed when the British singer popped up on screen. Despite hints that the hit maker would do a cameo role in the new season, fans were still surprised. Sheeran's appearance got mixed reactions from fans.

Not all fans were happy with his cameo

Ed Sheeran played one of the wayward soldiers listed as “Man#1” in the woods. When Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) heard him, she complimented his singing and said that it was the first time she heard the song. Sheeran replied that it was a new song.

A fan asked if the song is gonna be his new single. Another tweeted that the 25-year-old singer released a new song in Westeros.

Despite Sheeran’s appearance was brief, fans of the music superstar were elated to see him on the small screen. It was not his first time to do acting according to People. He appeared in five episodes of FX’s “The Bastard Executioner” with Katey Sagal and Stephen Moyer in 2015.

However, according to BBC the “x” singer’s appearance on the show has divided his fans. Many of those who were glad to see him on the first episode titled “Dragonstone” turned to Twitter to express their reactions.

But some of his fans did not feel it was a good decision for him to appear on the show.

It has been reported right after season 6 ended that the show will end on season 8.

The reason behind this decision is the lack of new materials (the show has been airing since 2011). The last two seasons will have fewer episodes compared to the first six.

Did Ed Sheeran make a cameo appearance because of Maisie Williams?

Co-showrunner David Benioff revealed the reason why Ed Sheeran appeared on this season’s first episode.

According to him, Arya Stark played by Maisie Williams is a big fan of the singer. They tried for years to have him appear on the show and this time he agreed.

The whole episode lasted 59 minutes but the succeeding episodes will be longer. Ed Sheeran had enough share of screen time. It is not known whether he will appear again in the next episodes or not, but he will surely start his tour soon. The "Divide" balladeer will be making big bucks again after the successful release of his album. The singer's net worth is estimated around £50 million, thanks to his albums and concerts being money-makers through the past five years.
