Shortly after his cameo in the premiere episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 7, Ed Sheeran became the talk of the town. While critics and "GOT" fans were impartial to his appearance, the director of this particular episode of the hit HBO series Jeremy Podeswa defended the "Shape of You" singer’s performance.

Ed Sheeran on 'GOT'

Ed Sheeran made headlines shortly after the premiere episode of "GOT" Season 7 was aired. It didn’t help matters when the "Shape of You" singer decided to delete his Twitter account following the onslaught of memes and negative reactions in social media.

While he remains silent amidst the backlash and his account has been reactivated, director Jeremy Podeswa defended his casting saying that the "Thinking Out Loud" singer looked like he belonged in the world of "Game of Thrones."

The veteran TV director added that Ed Sheeran did a lovely job and the cast was done appropriately. While Jeremy Podeswa is only the first person to officially defend the Grammy-winner singer, he praised the Sheeran for doing a good job. “He came into this with only lovely intentions to come and do a good job and sing well, so I think that’s the only drag,” Podeswa told Newsweek. He pointed out that if Sheeran wasn’t popular, the audience wouldn’t have thrown shades about his performance.

Ed Sheeran has since reactivated his Twitter account according to latest reports. When he reactivated his account on Tuesday night, his followers dwindled to a mere 5,000 from a staggering 19 million. Despite receiving backlash from "GOT" fans and critics alike, the singer regained millions of followers in just a few hours.

Sheeran had recovered almost all of his followers by Wednesday morning. He even managed to salvage his recent posts. While he activated his Twitter account, he advised his fans to start following him on Instagram instead.
