The favorite K-Pop idol group, EXO recently kicked off their comeback, and they have taken the world by storm with their new album. The group continues to top various music charts and break records.
EXO takes over the music scene with comeback
SM Entertainment entirely released EXO’s new and fourth album titled “The War” on July 18. The release was paired with the reveal of the official music videos for their title track, “Ko Ko Bop,” which continue to earn millions of views until now.
The idol group’s return to the scene was one of the biggest comebacks this year as fans lined up to purchase their albums and see them perform live.
Even before their new album was released, the group already set a new record for gaining the most number of album pre-orders, which accumulated to more than 800,000.
Shortly after the “The War” album was revealed, EXO reached another new record after their new album sold over 600,000 copies in just a week since its official release date. According to Hanteo Chart, this was the highest number of first-week album sales ever recorded, surpassing the previous record, which the group also held with their previous album, “EX’ACT.”
Aside from their album sales, EXO’s “The War” album just entered and immediately topped Billboard’s World Album charts this week. The said album is also in the 87th spot of Billboard 200 while their main track, “Ko Ko Bop” reached second place on the World Digital Song Sales Chart.
According to Billboard, this is EXO’s best record yet, beating their old record with their “Exodus” album in 2015, which made its highest spot at no. 95 on Billboard 200. Their other new songs, “The Eve” and “Forever” also made it to the World Digital Song Sales Chart at no. 8 and no. 24, respectively.
The group recently wrapped up their series of comeback stage performances and have started to officially compete on various South Korean music programs with their new song, “Ko Ko Bop.” The boys took their first win on MBC “Show Champion” after battling it out with Red Velvet, CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa, Zico, and Heize.
Other K-Pop artists on Billboard’s World Albums charts
Aside from EXO, other promising South Korean artists also made it to Billboard’s World Album charts. KARD debuted on the said chart at no. 3 with their first mini album, “Hola Hola.” KARD just made their official debut, and they have already received great response from the international music scene.
Rapper Jessi, who released her new album after a decade, also took the fourth spot on the said Billboard chart with “Un2verse.” BIGBANG leader G-Dragon is in his seventh week and hanging on at no. 5 at the said Billboard chart.
