After the tragic nuclear apocalypse, “The 100” is set to return with Season 5. The apocalyptic drama has been on a roller-coaster ride with the unexpected death of fan-favorite character Lexa (Alycia Debnam Carey) in the previous chapter.
This, too, was the most tragic season by far, with no one coming out unscathed. However, the outlook for the upcoming season is expected to improve.
A surprising renewal
According to Deadline, The CW announced the renewal of the post-apocalyptic television series in March.
It is quite surprising that “The 100” Season 5 even got picked up, especially since a lot of fans seem to have given up on the show after the death of Lexa.
That being said, it is apparent that the television series still has a strong enough fandom for the network to continue the show.
Evidently, Clarke Griffin (Eliza Taylor) and her people faced the hardest time of their lives stopping the radiation wave. They tried their very best in every possible way, but, unfortunately, to no avail. The group didn’t succeed in preventing the nuclear apocalypse, so they had to try to find another way to save people.
The group found a bunker, but it could only house 100 people from each tribe, which resulted in the heartbreaking decision to save only 100 citizens of Skaikru. Clarke then created a list that they would use to choose the people that would be saved.
Hence, “The 100” “came back to full circle,” Den of Geek cited.
Possible release of the 5th season
It looks like fans have to wait a little longer for the return of “The 100” Season 5 to hit the small screen.
Fortunately, a few details about the show are now emerging, thanks to Jason Rothenberg’s interview with TV Guide. The television producer hinted that Bellamy Blake (Bob Morley) and Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos) might be reunited, that is if the two survive.
“I think ultimately, obviously, they will be together again at some point,” he said. On the other hand, Entertainment Weekly reported that Isaiah Washington, who plays the role of Thelonious Jaha, won’t be a series regular anymore in the upcoming fifth installment.
However, it is not yet revealed if his character will be completely taken off or if he will still be seen in guest appearances.
The CW has yet to announce the official release of “The 100” Season 5, but it is expected to be out in the first quarter of 2018. The third season began in January 2016 while the fourth chapter started in February 2017, so, should the new installment follow the same production schedule, fans don't have to wait much longer.
