The cast of "Riverdale" is hard at work and there have been plenty to digest thus far. There was that social media post showing Betty (Lili Reinhart) helping Jughead (Cole Sprouse) fix a pickup followed by photos that hinted at someone getting married.
Now, some leaked footage from a Riverdale audition tape featuring Lorelei Linklater has been included in the mix. If so, the belief right now is that another Archie comic book character will be joining the cast in “Toni Topaz.”
Who is Toni Topaz?
Toni Topaz appeared on the 2012 Archie Comics series, a bisexual black female character sporting pink hair.
In the comics, Toni is linked to Jughead after both met at a cupcake-eating contest. If all falls according to place, it may turn out to be a love triangle between Jughead, Betty, and Tony.
Before jumping to conclusions, it would be best to know that “Riverdale” showrunners have been tinkering with the characters on TV compared to the comic book. Jughead is a prime example.
In the comics, Jughead was best known as someone who loved to eat. He was never really romantically involved so the relationship he holds with Betty is something most had to get used to. If a love triangle is in the works, it could push Juggy towards that comic book character. However, expect Betty to try and fight for his guy.
No assurance for Linklater
Also, it would be best to note that Linklater was auditioning. She may land the part if the producers find essence in injecting the character. Hence, there is still no certainty that Tony Topaz will be around for Riverdale Season 2.
Assuming she is cast, it would be best to consider that Topaz could be portraying a different role.
She could be linked to Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) too if ever the romantic angle involving Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) turns sour. Right now anything is possible so it would be best to take these with a grain of salt.
Looking ahead, there are plenty of possibilities for “Riverdale” season 2. Most may develop midway through the season as there are plenty of mysteries that require answering.
There is the case of Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), who was shot at the diner. Was it by accident or staged? There is also the fate of FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) who is holed in jail even if he was not the one who killed Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines). It was actually Clifford Blossom (Barclay Hope) who killed his son though the reason behind it is pointing to drugs.
“Riverdale” season 2 has no official release date as of this writing. There are plenty of questions left on the table so expect more theories and new developments in the coming months.
