"john wick 3" is definitely coming. Following the success of "John Wick: Chapter 2," which ran in theaters February, the movie starring Keanu Reeves as a hitman has been confirmed for another installment.
Director Chad Stahelski revealed he's eyeing the beginning of production at the end of the year. "If not by the end of this year, (shooting may start at) the beginning of next year," he said in an interview with Collider.
Third story's plot details
Chad Stahelski underscored that the third installment will likely not attempt to go bigger than the first two chapters. He said he has no plans to bomb a freeway just to top the past films and it would be a waste of production money.
He added that they plan on looking at the intricacies and “little details of everyday life” in Wick’s world for the third chapter to give viewers more insights into the character’s origin. “You know he’s had some serious training -- Was it military?” the director teased.
Original writer back on board
Derek Kolstad, who wrote the first two screenplays for "John Wick," has reportedly signed on for the third film as well.
Kolstad's return gave a strong indication that the creative team for the movie remains solid, so fans can look forward to the same tone and quality for the third film as the previous installments.
Kolstad has been heavily invested in the legend of John Wick as he has also written the storyline for the first person shooting virtual reality video game "John Wick: Chronicles” which has been on Steam since February. He serves as a consultant to the comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment and Lionsgate Entertainment which will be released later this year.
Small budget, big box office profits
The “John Wick” franchise was filmed with a meager budget but earned over a hundred million dollars at the box office.
Viewers loved the action-packed film despite critics saying it doesn’t have a proper plot or dialogues.
The first movie featured a basic revenge plot of a man whose loved-ones were killed off because of a rift with other assassins. Aside from Reeves, the film also starred Michael Nyqvist, Willem Dafoe, Alfie Allen, John Leguizamo, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Regan and Bridget Moynahan as Reeves' wife.
The second movie introduced this network of assassins. Ian McShane, Common and Ruby Rose were part of the supporting cast. "John Wick: Chapter 2" also reunited Reeves with his co-star on "The Matrix," Lawrence Fishburne.
