Last year's "Suicide Squad" put songwriter, singer, and actor Jared Leto back on the big screen as The Joker, a role he took to heart and played magnificently. The 45-year old actor's performance in the film was praised by many, and fans are already clamoring for the sequel. There's not much news surrounding the sequel just yet, but the spin-off from the film titled "Gotham City Sirens" seems to be picking up in terms of production.

The upcoming spin-off will focus on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, as well as two other characters in the form of Poison Ivy and Catwoman. For now, no actresses have been cast in those roles just yet, but Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who worked on the "Tomb Raider" reboot, is already on board to write the script. DC Films' Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will be producing alongside Robbie, who will serve as an executive producer on the film. One question remains in fans' minds, however: Will Jared Leto's Joker be in "Gotham City Sirens"?

Jared Leto 'can’t confirm or deny' presence in 'Gotham City Sirens'

Jared Leto recently spoke with ET to clarify whether he'll be in "Gotham City Sirens," and he had this to say: "I have no idea.

There are a lot of moving parts with that stuff and we'll see what happens next." The actor is currently busy gearing up for another film which he is part of called "Blade Runner 2049." It is directed by Denis Villeneuve and is the sequel to the 1982 film "Blade Runner." The upcoming "2049" film will bring together a stellar cast, including Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling ("La La Land"), Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2"), Robin Wright ("Wonder Woman"), Edward James Olmos ("Stand and Deliver"), and Mackenzie Davis ("The F Word"). "Blade Runner 2049" is set to hit theaters on October 6.

Actor to play prisoner of war in 'The Outsider'

Aside from "Suicide Squad" and the upcoming "Blade Runner 2049," Jared Leto is keeping busy with the upcoming action crime drama "The Outsider," which is directed by Martin Zandvliet.

Back in November, Variety reported that the film will follow a U.S. army deserter who "joins the Yakuza while living in post-World War II Japan." Joining Leto in the upcoming film are Rory Cochrane of "Black Mass" and Tadanobu Asano of Marvel's "Thor." The film is set to be distributed by Netflix globally, but there's no release date set as of now. In the meantime, Leto is also gearing up for the release of his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars' upcoming fifth studio album. Teasers for the upcoming record were recently released on their social media accounts, which can be found below:
