Marvel has released an exclusive trailer for its upcoming miniseries, “The Defenders,” which is set to premiere on August 18, 2017.
The studio has confirmed that two to four TV spots will be released on Netflix this weekend. “The Defenders” combines the stories of “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage,” and “Jessica Jones.” The 70-second clip shows off new material, including the glimpses of Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra.
It sets out the story of how Alexandra teams up with other villains to destroy the city. Best of all is the footage of leading characters, including Charlie Cox as Murdock, Krysten Ritter as Jones, Mike Colter as Luke, and Finn Jones as Rand.
‘The Defenders’
“The Defenders” is an upcoming web television series developed by Douglas Petrie, with Marco Ramirez serving as executive producer. The story is based on the Marvel Comics superheroes of the same name, sharing the continuity with the film franchise.
It is a joint project of ABC Studios and Marvel Television, with Petrie and Ramirez serving as showrunners.
Principal photography began in October 2016 and concluded in February 2017.
“The Defenders” consists of nine episodes and is scheduled for August 2017. Following the events of “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Jessica Jones,” and “Iron Fist,” a team of criminals, The Hand, is set to attack the New York City. Elodie Yung, Sigourney Weaver, Eka Darville, Simone Missick, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Scott Glenn, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Henwick, and Marko Zaror will make the cameo appearances in the show.
Production of the series
In October 2014, Deadline reported that Marvel was preparing the scripts for four drama series, in collaboration with Netflix, WGN America, and Amazon. In March 2016, Eka Darville confirmed his role as Malcolm in the series, stating that Simone Missick would also play a major role in the show.
Stephanie Maslansky serves as costume designer, while John Paesano is set to compose the score for the miniseries.
