"Supergirl" season 2 ended with “Mon-El” (Chris Wood) either saying goodbye or being relegated to smaller exposure next season. But it seems that he is not the only cast member who may be seen less for the series.
The word is out that Floriana Lima will be seen less as well with the actress who plays “Maggie Sawyer” opting to pursue other opportunities. The revelation comes as a surprise considering it seemed she would be getting a bigger role.
In the season finale of “Supergirl,” “Alex Danvers” (Chyler Leigh) got all emotional and asked “Maggie” to marry her. There was no straight answer from the latter unless that hug meant a “yes.” With the current turn of events tied up to Lima’s future, there could be changes in the script.
"Maggie Sawyer" sticking around sparingly
Floriana Lima will still be around though not as often. This means that her character will still be seen for some part of “Supergirl” season 3 though it will be interesting when she will pop up.
Showrunners could opt to push through with the marriage plans though there are various scenarios to consider.
One option could see “Maggie” and “Alex” tying the knot, only to see the detective be re-assigned to somewhere outside National City. If that were the case, it would be a long-distance relationship which could make sense if Lima will not be seen that much.
Another scenario could see the wedding called off due to the lack of quality time. Both could end up parting with some ill-feelings and such would be rekindled each time they cross paths moving forward.
Either way, the “Alex-Maggie” relationship should provide some extra highlights next season even with the decision of Lima to tone down her role. There are plenty of scenarios though it seems to indicate that “Alex” will be in for another rough time with a possible stumble in her love life.
New partner for Alex?
With Lima getting a reduced role, there is a chance that “Alex” may be paired with another character. That person could be a new insertion into the mix, the identity of which is unknown as we speak.
If ever that is in the books for “Supergirl” season 3, the next question is whether it would be a man or a woman. The same-sex relationship seemed to pan out but producers could try and use a traditional boy-girl relationship. Besides, “Alex” does have the looks so any man could try and make a pass at her.
Regardless, “Supergirl” is headed for another season where new threats are expected. “Alex” and the D.E.O. will need to be on alert seeing how Kara (Melissa Benoist) still needs help on occasion. “Supergirl” season 3 returns on CW this fall.
