“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is heavily steeped in rumor and speculation, especially now that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is back. With the inclusion of Supreme Leader Snoke, there are swirling rumors that the next installment of the epic space opera franchise will be darker than the films that have come before. Now that there are a number of twists and turns expected to be seen in the upcoming movie, here are some possible storylines that moviegoers may see in the upcoming film.
The Last Jedi
The “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” title itself is quite alarming.
By saying the last Jedi, it seems like it will be the end of the peacekeeping organization, the end of the Light Side, with the Dark Side coming out on top. This, too, might pertain to the end of Luke. Will he die this time following the death of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens"?
The Dark Side’s victory
With the death of Han, the attack of The First Order to the Republic, and the absence of Luke, it seems like the Dark Side is slowly winning. Rey still has a lot of training to do, although what she showed in her battle with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) was really impressive. And, as she already found Luke, his last words in the trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” might mean something bad as well.
“It’s time for the Jedi to end,” he said. Speculation has been running rampant ever since, with many trying to decode what Luke meant by this statement. Will the Dark Side really win this time?
Snoke
Snoke is a puzzling villain. He looks like a rotting, giant corpse, but possesses supreme power -- and no one knows just how much power he possesses just yet.
However, in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” he was only seen as a hologram.
Hence, his real identity interests a lot of fans. In “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” there are strong rumors that his real personality will be revealed. In fact, in a new toy collection by Hasbro, a toy figure named Victor is believed to be him. But, according to Inverse, it was just the brand’s way of misdirecting and keeping things under wraps.
The Grey Jedi
As this is said to be the last Jedi, will the Grey Jedi be introduced this time? There are strong assumptions that Rey is actually a Grey Jedi, the one balancing the Light and the Dark Side. In fact, in the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” poster, she is said to be strategically placed in the middle of Luke and Kylo Ren.
Ultimately, though, fans won't know for sure until the film hits theaters.
