While Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have already confirmed their departure from playing their respective roles in the "X-Men" film franchise, Michael Fassbender may still be donning his helmet for one last time next year. According to the MTV News correspondent, Fassbender has apparently been confirmed to appear in next year's "X-Men" sequel, "dark phoenix." News correspondent Josh Horowitz recently went on Twitter to confirm that the Irish actor will be appearing in "Dark Pheonix" next year. Horowitz also shot down the previous rumors regarding Fassbender's appearance in the upcoming "New Mutants" movie, which will also a tie-in to the rest of the "X-Men" installments.
Want to know Fassbender's X-MEN future? Bet big on him appearing in DARK PHOENIX but not NEW MUTANTS. Oh, I just saw Michael Fassbender BTW

The Dark Phoenix saga
There is currently not a lot of information regarding the plot and cast of the upcoming movie. What is known is that it will be a retelling of the classic comic book story that was originally touched on in the previous "X-Men" movies. Some of the first hints of Jean Grey's Phoenix persona were featured in the previous installments but were criticized by most fans due to its departure from its comic book source. "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner, who first appeared in "X-Men: Apocalypse" as Jean Grey, will be reprising her role in the upcoming movie.
In the comic book series, Jean Grey becomes possessed by a cosmic entity called the Pheonix Force, which unleashes her ultimate potential as a telepath and telekinetic. The newly born being then becomes a threat, not just to the planet, but to the entire galaxy.
A big year for mutants
20th Century Fox currently has a lot of plans for their "X-Men" film universe.
The studio is expected to release at least three new movies next year. The first movie to hit theaters next year will be "New Mutants,"," a movie about a separate group of mutants from Charles Xavier's school. The mutants that will be featured will include Warlock, Magic, Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, and Sunspot. "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams and "Split" actress Anya Taylor-Joy have already been confirmed to be appearing.
The movie will hit theaters on April 13. The movie will then be followed by "Deadpool 2," which will see the return of Ryan Reynolds in the titular role and the introduction of Cable, to be played by Josh Brolin. The "Deadpool" sequel will hit theaters on June 1. "Dark Phoenix" will then hit the silver screen on November 2.
