With only two seasons left, the hugely popular TV show "Game of Thrones" is gradually reaching its conclusion. However, fans of the fantasy drama series will be delighted to hear that HBO is already working on multiple spinoffs. Variety now reports that the premium cable channel has hired four renown Hollywood writers to work on these spinoffs.

HBO hires four writers for potential spinoffs

According to Variety, the four writers that have been hired by HBO include Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Carly Wray. Each of these writers boasts an impressive CV, having previously worked on film and TV productions such as "Kong: Skull Island," "Kingsman: The Golden Circle," and "Mad Men."

Both Goldman and Wray are set to work directly with George R. R. Martin, the creator of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" novel series, which the "Game of Thrones" TV show is based on.

While showrunners and executive producers Dan Weiss and David Benioff are also attached to the projects, neither of them will be involved as a writer.

Casey Bloys responds to spinoff rumors

HBO's programming president Casey Bloys responded to rumors of a possible "Game of Thrones" spinoff at the Television Critics Association summer press tour last year. Bloys said: "We've talked about it. It's something I'm not opposed to. But, of course, it has to make sense creatively."

Now that HBO has reportedly closed deals with the writers mentioned above, it is seeming increasingly likely for the spinoffs to become a reality in the near future.

Release date for spinoffs unknown

As of now, it remains unclear when HBO plans on releasing the spinoffs, but an HBO spokesperson has now made a statement regarding the project.

"We'll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in," said the spokesperson.

However, the "Game of Thrones" spinoffs probably won't be airing anytime soon. The eighth and final season of the fantasy drama will air in 2018, and it is highly unlikely for HBO to release any potential spinoff before the original show ends.

When will season 7 be released?

Diehard fans of "Game of Thrones" already know that season 7 won't be released until July 16. New seasons of the show are usually released in April, but the showrunners have pushed back the start date to capture the desired weather.

At the end of season 6, the long winter has finally arrived and with Jon Snow and Sansa Stark reclaiming Winterfell, a majority of season 7 is set to take place in the icy North of Westeros.
