Although Cher and Gregg Allman's marriage was short-lived, Cher and Gregg have always shared a special bond. The couple married in 1975, just four days after Cher and first husband (and singing partner) Sonny Bono's divorce finalized.
Nine days later Cher left the founder of the Allman Brothers Band after realizing that Gregg's alcohol and heroin addictions were more than she could handle.
Cher and Gregg Allman's marriage and divorce details reveal deep love
Allman wrote in his memoir about falling in love with Cher according to a past UCR report stating that he could not even speak to her the first time they met because he was "so blinded by her." The couple soon reunited and spent the next four years after their marriage in an on-again-off-again relationship. Gregg filed for divorce the second time.
The split was once again short-lived, as they reunited once again after getting the news that Cher was pregnant with their son.
The pair even went as far as to team up and record an album together called "Two the Hard Way" as Allman and Woman.
The album was not well received by fans and in January of 1978, they were divorced for the final time. “Dead weight starts out as dead weight and ends up just the same,” Cher shrugged. “I don’t know why I waited so long," she told People.
Despite a failed marriage Cher and Gregg remained good friends and dedicated parents to their son.
“Nobody ever made me feel as happy as Gregory did,” mused Cher. “God, he’s wonderful. I don’t understand why he can’t see it. He’s the kindest, most gentle, loving husband and father. But then, he forgets and everything goes to s—.”
Following the death of Cher's first husband, Sonny Bono, Cher spoke during Sonny's memorial service, giving an emotional, touching eulogy.
Cher's speech revealed that despite their divorce she had and would always care very deeply for him. Fans today are now wondering if the pop icon will pay a similar tribute to Allman.
Cher, 71, made news headlines earlier this week after she was honored as an Icon at the Billboard Music Awards, taking the stage and wowing audience members and television spectators with her flawless performance.
