The horror film, “Get Out,” has once again made history. The Jordan Peele-directed political thriller grossed more than $200 Million at the global box office. Deadline has reported that the movie totaled up $204 million, with $173 million being earned domestically and over $30 million internationally.
Peele is now the first black director to develop a $200 million debut feature, beating out the films by F.
Gary Gray, Clark Johnson, Keenan Ivory Wayans, John Singleton, and Tim Story.
‘Get Out’ – the film
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the smashing success of “Get Out” will allow Peele to direct and write new movies, as well as produce projects through his Monkeypaw Productions banner. “Get Out” is a Hollywood thriller, starring Daniel Kaluuya, Caleb Landry, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, Stephen Root, Allison Williams, and Lil Rel Howery.
The movie follows a black man, Hayworth, who encounters his former girlfriend, Rose Armitage, and an old friend, Chris, in the city. The three plan to visit a farmhouse to meet Armitage's parents, and her brother, Jeremy.
Chris is concerned about Armitage as she had not revealed the truth of their relationship. Michael Abels composed the score for “Get Out.”
Earning details of the film
As of April 29, 2017, the film had grossed over $201 million in the US and Canada and $30 million in other countries, against a budget of $5 million. In April 2017, it became the highest grossing movie developed by a black producer, defeating Gary’s hit movie, “Straight Outta Compton,” which grossed $159 million in its opening weekend.
“Get Out” earned $1.7 million from Friday night previews and $11 million on the first day.
