Perez Hilton, the famous blogger and TV personality, drew flak from K-pop fans after questioning the sexuality of BTS members, who recently attended the 2017 #Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas becoming the first K-pop band to win the prestigious prize. Through his personal Twitter account, the gossip columnist posted a series of tweets about the popular boy group on Sunday night.

BTS at the 2017 BBMAs

At first, Perez Hilton admired the boys for being "cute," which was followed by another post asking whether someone from the BTS members is "openly gay." As expected, the tweet received mixed response from the netizens. Some were angered, while others defended the blogger from a surge of hate comments. Hilton refused to back down, posting another tweet about BTS along with an article about their BBMAs attendance and an explicit caption. Most fans took offense of Perez Hilton's last tweet which they said was too straightforward. "ARMYs, you shouldn't really listen to Perez Hilton.

He knows how to annoy people and then keep trolling them until they get tired," a fan wrote. Some netizens, however, justified that the columnist was merely asking, rather than concluding if any of the seven members was openly gay.

BTS wins Top Social Artist

Despite the online uproar caused by Perez Hilton's curiosity, BTS successfully bagged the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, dethroning Justin Bieber who has been topping the category since 2011. The K-pop group also defeated Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and Shawn Mendes for the recognition. The seven-member group has become the first K-pop act and second Korean artist to win an award at the annual music event. Their presence at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards also marked their US red carpet debut, which only proved that the boy group is ready to make a crossover.

In fact, BTS recently performed for their American fans in Newark, Chicago and Anaheim for their concert tour. Over 60,000 fans came to witness the K-pop bringing their popularity stateside. Similarly, the members will head straight from Nevada to Australia for a one-day show on May 26.

'The Wings Tour'

After their show in Sydney, BTS will embark for a series of shows in Japan which are also part of "The Wings Tour." The popular boy group has already visited several countries for their concert tour, including Chile, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Hong Kong. They will be wrapping up their five-month long tour with a two-day show in Sapporo, Japan on July 1 and 2.
