"America's Got Talent" returned to NBC on Tuesday night without former host Nick Cannon. However, all went exceptionally well with Tyra Banks making her debut as the host of Season 12. It took only a few moments for viewers to see that she was doing a fantastic job in her own style.

The 43-year-old host is no stranger to being in front of big audiences. She hosted "America's Next Top Model" for 22 seasons and her own daytime talk show, "The Tyra Banks Show," for five seasons. If people tuned in to see if she would fail, they were disappointed. For those who thought she would do a great job, they were well pleased.

Season 12

Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel returned to judge contestants on the popular talent show. Most of the contestants brought fresh acts that had never been seen before on the show. There were quite a few bad acts also that didn't impress the four judges or the audience.

The very first act of the season was a chicken that played "America the Beautiful" on a piano. The chicken took a few seconds to get started, and the audience seemed impatient. Then when the chicken began to play, people were impressed. The judges voted for the chicken to go on to the next round. It will be interesting to find out what the chicken will play the next time.

A 21-singer was stopped by Cowell as soon as she started.

He asked her if she has a second song to sing because as a young person she was coming on strong as an older person. Before she began to sing her second song, Tyra ran on stage and fluffed up the contestant's hair, took the heavy jewelry from around her neck and off her ears. She took the girl's clunky shoes off her feet. The contestant sang barefooted.

What Tyra did helped the singer to get raving remarks from the judges who voted her to go on to the next round. When we see her again, she will probably be better prepared. Like Cannon used to do, Tyra got in on some of the bad acts.

"America's Got Talent" has had many magic acts before, but none like the one performed by magician Will Tsai.

Cowell told him his magic act was the best he had seen in 12 seasons. He made coins appear and disappear.

Golden Buzzer

The highlight of the night was when 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer performed with her puppet. She discovered ventriloquism at her church. Her parents gave her a puppet when she turned 10 to help her get over being shy. In just two years, she had perfected her craft that wowed the judges and the audience. She was so good that Mel B hit the Golden buzzer which sent her straight to the next round.

The young ventriloquist from Oklahoma City and her puppet rabbit Petunia sang “Summertime.” It was a good way to end the premiere show. Viewers can say that "America's Got Talent" got off to a very good start.
