MTV's Clay Adler committed suicide at the end of last month during a vacation to the desert with friends. According to a new report, Adler, who was featured in a full-time role during both seasons of "Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County," was said to have shot himself.

On April 11, TMZ broke the news of Adler's shocking death, revealing that the reality star had passed away in a hospital on March 26 as a result of the gunshot wound. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that Adler and his friends, who were not named in the report, had gone shooting in the desert one day before his death.

However, what was meant to be a fun trip among friend turned horrific when Adler suddenly turned the gun on himself.

"Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County," a spinoff of the super popular "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County," began airing in 2007, three years after "Laguna Beach" made its debut, and remained on the air until the following year. As fans of the series will recall, the star of "Laguna Beach," Lauren Conrad, went on to appear on "The Hills" with Jason Wahler and Heidi Montag and years later, her co-star, Whitney Port, received her own spin-off of the MTV reality show titled "The City." Then, in 2010, the series came to a close for good.

Clay Adler reportedly struggled with mental illness

Although insiders close to the situation claimed Adler did not have any drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his suicide, they did say that the reality star had struggled with mental illness in the past. As for what issues he was struggling with, that was not defined.

Clay Adler was a friend of actress Jennifer Lawrence

When the "Newport Beach" star began to pursue a career in acting, he was known to have a friendship with Jennifer Lawrence. The 27-year-old was also said to have been an "avid surfer" and weeks after his passing, Friends And Family honored Adler with a paddle out.

Following the news of Adler's death, several of his fellow MTV stars expressed their sadness online.

In a message to her friends and family on Instagram days ago, "Newport Beach" cast member Allie Stockton wrote, "At a loss for words and truly heartbroken. We love you so much [Clay Adler]. I do hope you're in this outfit when I see you again." Along with her post was a photo of herself and Adler, who was dressed like a hillbilly. In response to Stockton's post, Ashley Wahler, the wife of "Laguna Beach" star Jason Wahler wrote, "This is so sad."
