We finally have a teaser trailer for "Thor: Ragnarok," and it is absolutely mind-blowing. When "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" director James Gunn said that it was the best Marvel trailer to date he wasn't lying. The trailer starts off with Thor in chains and Cate Blanchett's Hela crushing Mjolnir with her bare hands. Hela destroys Asgard, and then Thor is captured and brought to Sakaar to do battle in the Grandmaster's gladiatorial arena. Fans have been eagerly anticipating a first glimpse of this upcoming Marvel movie, and the first trailer certainly does not disappoint.
The Grandmaster is in charge
Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster seems to be very pleased that he has a new contender to fight for his enjoyment. When Grandmaster yells that it's time for the main event to start the Incredible Hulk breaks through the gates and bursts into the area. Thor is overjoyed and excited.
He exclaims: "We know each other from work." This hilarious moment is short-lived because Hulk, dressed in full warrior regalia, charges towards Thor. The trailer ends as they simultaneous punch each other.
New villains teased
The trailer gave us glimpses of all the new villains that are set to appear in the Marvel movie. We get to see exactly how powerful Hela is when she turns Asgard into ashes, and we even get to see an angry and violent Skurge mowing people down with his machine guns.
The most intriguing part of the trailer is the colorful landscapes and settings of the planet Sakaar.
Thor is captured by Valkyrie and brought to the Grandmaster. Thor is given new duds and weapons, and he also gets his golden locks cut off. We also see some familiar faces return in the trailer. Heimdall is seen fighting some creatures, and Loki is shown brandishing two daggers.
Why is the Hulk so angry?
However, we don't know why the Hulk is so quick to attack Thor. The trailer shows Hulk equipped with armor and a giant axe, but when he sees his longtime friend and fellow Avenger he instantly wants to fight. It might just be friendly sparring for the amusement of the fans in the stands, or perhaps there is something more sinister going on.
The trailer shows Thor's brother Loki sitting next to the Grandmaster. Since the two are watching the fight together perhaps they have formed some sort of alliance. It's also possible that Loki is controlling Hulk's mind and making him attack Thor. We will find out for sure why the Hulk seems like he wants to rip Thor's head off when "Thor: Ragnarok" hits theaters. The movie is set to be released in North America on Nov. 3.
