With only a little over two weeks more before "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2" hits theaters, Marvel fans and moviegoers are anticipating the unveiling of the new characters in the film. The James Gunn-directed film promised a lot of new adventures, as seen in the trailers and TV spots released by the studio, but none of them have shown Sylvester Stallone and his mystery role.
The wait is over, however, as Stallone has been confirmed to play the Ravager Stakar, who has quite a beef with Michael Rooker's Yondu.
While Sylvester Stallone and his "Tango & Cash" co-star Kurt Russell won't share the screen in the highly anticipated film, the pair did run into each other during filming. Fans got a glimpse of Kurt Russell in one of the film's trailers, but Stallone's character has been kept under wraps, until now.
Sylvester Stallone as Ravager Stakar
According to Comicbook, some lucky souls will get to see "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" ahead of everyone else through a special screening.
Along with it, comes some production notes from the studio, indicating a description of the character that Sylvester Stallone plays in the film.
The film's production notes read that Sylvester Stallone will play a Ravager named Stakar, who has a beef with Michael Rooker's Yondu. The pair has quite a history, as Yondu was once banished by Stakar after Yondu did something wrong. Twenty years later, the two run into each other in the usual Ravagers watering hole called Iron Lotus.
According to Stallone, "We have a confrontation which is pretty intense and it’s kind of a father/son type of thing and now he’s going to have to pay the piper."
'Guardians' sequel poised to earn big at the box office
It may be a little early in the game, but the projections for the upcoming sequel to the 2014 hit is already predicted to earn at least $150 million at the box-office locally, Deadline reported.
If this is any indication, it may replicate the success of "Captain America: Civil War," which earned $179.1 million at the box-office locally.
Exciting times are ahead for fans of this ragtag team, as Marvel has already locked in James Gunn to pen and direct the third installment of the upcoming film. According to Variety, the ever-social media savvy Gunn took to Facebook to share the news that he will return to write and helm the third film.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" opens this May 5, and brings back Chris Pratt as Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot (voice), and Bradley Cooper as Rocket (voice), together with the new Guardians Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Pom Klementieff as Mantis.
